Atlas Alliance [ATLAS] send Intrepid Crossing [IRC] looking for a map home after methodically taking apart their entire fleet in their first match of the tournament.

The match opened with volleys of missiles and drones being launched between the opposing fleets positioned approximately 40km apart. IRC took an early lead inflicting measurable damage to the shields of Muggle Wumpskin’s Rook. This short lived gain rapidly diminished as it became apparent that the Rook’s armor would be a harder nut to crack as the vessel received significant support from J Johnson’s Guardian.

Meanwhile ATLAS started to feel out their targets, eventually settling on the removal of Bblurtie’s Kitsune and Keisan Varalar’s Daredevil. The Kitsune’s demise was to be the beginning of the end for IRC’s hopes, as it removed the main impediment to the two ATLAS Rooks poised to neutralise significant portions of the IRC offensive capability.

What followed was a slow, but organised dismantling of the IRC fleet. In spite of this IRC made every effort to inflict what damage they could, but were hampered by the effective logistical support provided to their targets by the ATLAS Guardian. The match concluded with the loss of entire IRC fleet, while ATLAS suffered no losses at all.

After the match I spoke with ookke, team captain for ATLAS, about their win: “we were expecting a tougher match, but we did have a rough guess of what they were going to bring.” On clarification of the “rough guess” comment, it emerged that ATLAS had “intelligence” about the opposition’s fleet composition, and that this had guided their Rook’s EWAR fitting: “we had 3 Caldari racials on each rook”.

Axexut, team captain for IRC, unaware of ATLAS’ subterfuge expressed surprise at the result: “We were impressed by the EWAR Atlas brought to the field. It was certainly unexpected.” While he also confirmed they’d stuck to ‘conventional’ opposition research: “We did study their current Tranquility fleets as well as their previous tourney setups. We were expecting a BC heavy fleet heavier on the DPS (hence our stronger tanks).”
