Pandemic Legion [-10.0] sent Cry Havok [C H] away with a "concussion" after bombing out their chances of competing in the next round.
Before the match [C H] warped their fleet to the centre of the arena, while [-10.0] decided to put their Strategic Cruisers and Stealth Bombers 30km out, their Rooks a further 5km, and their Scimitar out beyond that.
The battle commenced with [C H] launching a huge swarm of drones, but before they could even settle in space 5 concussion bombs appeared on the tactical grid. Like agents of doom they zoomed towards the [C H] fleet, instantly relieving them of two Ishkur’s, and a sizable number of drones.
A mauled [C H] fleet struggled to have any impact on their foes, as the onslaught from [-10.0] continued. Another [C H] Ishtar (piloted by Halsoy) quickly followed the fate of the two previous, thereby neutralising the ships most capable of removing the powerful stealth bombers from play.
It was to go from bad to worse for [C H], and they became mere spectators to their own destruction. [-10.0] held the field with a flawless victory, destroying all their opponents’ vessels with barely a scratch on their own.
After the match we asked Admiral Goerius what clinched it for them: "both assault frigs dying to bombs right at the start, and a lot of their drones." Shamis Orzoz chipped in: "We were afraid of a warrior swarm, but the bombs paid off pretty well for us I think."
Pushing a little further into how risky it is to use bombs in the tournament Goerius said: "I don’t think it is risky, but you need to know how to use them and not a lot of players fly gangs of bombing bombers on everyday roams."
Mistress Suffering, a team member for [C H], was clear on why she thought it went wrong: "pretty simple really, we had a good setup for it, but completely failed at range selection. They had all their bombers at 30, so immediately on landing we were in perfect bomb range before anyone even had a chance to move. Can't get out fast enough, took them all in the face." On the teams reaction to the loss she said: "I'm planning to go kick a kitten and mug an old lady. I assume most of the team will do the same."
