Veni Vidi Vici Barely Wins Battle of Attrition Against Pandemic Legion

Reported by: Ariadne Reece

A fifteen minute fight between Veni Vidi Vici (V3) and Pandemic Legion (-10.0) ended with a one-point victory for V3 with more than half of both alliances' ships still on the field.

Pandemic Legion fielded a very different lineup from the battlecruiser and ewar-heavy teams that have dominated the tournament, based around a capacitor transfer 'spider', local shield repairs, and a remote repair-fit strategic cruiser. The full setup, of a Drake, Vulture, Curse, Hawk, two Golems, and a Tengu, was matched against V3's Sleipnir, two Brutixes, Drake, Nighthawk, two Ishkurs, a Harbinger, and a surprisingly durable Scimitar.

The first few minutes of the fight saw -10.0 losing its Curse as well as a Hawk and V3 losing two Brutixes and a Harbinger, but a capacitor recharge chain between the Golems and the Tengu made the core of the Pandemic Legion force hard to break. It was only when V3's cloud of ewar drones got a successful jam and broke the 'spider' that one of the Golems crumpled under heavy fire. From that point, around five minutes into the fight, until the match was called for time at the fifteen minute mark, no more ships were lost by either team.

The final score of the match, 36-35, gave V3 the victory. V3 spokesman Martyn Brierfield summed up both the match and the tournament so far when he said, "This year it has been hard to predict what people would bring to the fight. I would have liked to win with more points, but the outcome is very good. To win against PL I think is a very good result". Pandemic Legion was the winner of Alliance Tournament VI, and is considered by many to be a strong contender for this year's title.
